Beryllium, a lower cost alternative to titanium eye- wear is corrosion and tarnish resistant, making it an excellent choice for those who have high skin acidity or spend most of their time in or around salt water. It is a light-weighted steel gray metal, very strong and flexible and is available in variety of colors.

Stainless steel, an alloy of steel, chromium and many other metals are another alternative to titanium eye wear. Qualities include light weight, low toxicity, and strength and are highly resistant to corrosion, abrasion and heat. Many stainless steel frames are also nickel-free and thus hypoallergenic.

Flexon, also called a “Memory metal” is a titanium-based alloy. Even after twisting, bending and crushing, these frames come back into its original shape. Flexon frames are light-weighted, hypoallergenic and corrosion resistant.
Aluminium, a non-ferrous material, used primarily by high-end eyewear designers because of the unique look it creates is light weighted and highly corrosion-resistant. Pure aluminum is soft and weak, but commercial aluminum with small amounts of silicon and iron is hard and strong.

Nowadays, some manufacturers are also using gold and silver plating to provide a jewellery-like accent on plastic and metal frames. Semi-precious or precious stones are also used as an accent in the temples to provide a luxurious touch that can be worn in a formal office or on dressy occasions to create a flashy or retro look.
